Can I Move My HVAC System In My Space?

Hey everyone! I'm a total newbie when it comes to HVAC and home improvement stuff, and I need some advice. I have an access door on the second floor that opens into a big open area filled with blown insulation. Inside, there's a large box with duct tubing coming out of it. I'm thinking about moving this around, but I want to work with a professional, not tackle this DIY style. My ultimate goal is to insulate the roof and add flooring to make this space usable. Is it feasible to shift this setup without compromising the efficiency of my home's HVAC system?

Sure, you can move an HVAC system, but it's gonna cost you! If that box is the top of your air handler, you're looking at some serious expenses—like 10-20k minimum for a replacement unit and extra for electrician work and maybe even a new closet set up for it. Honestly, it might be better to leave it as is unless you're ready to fork out a lot of cash.

Thanks for the insight! Just to clarify, the air handler is actually in the attic, and the box in the photos is more of a hub unit distributing air to my living and dining rooms. Any thoughts on whether the weight of a floor would be an issue?

And don't forget about the structural integrity! You’ll want to ensure that your ceiling can handle the additional weight without a problem.

Yeah, the reality is that everything comes down to cost. Only local HVAC pros can give you accurate quotes, and if you're cost-conscious, definitely get at least three estimates. Just remember, moving this might not give you any return on investment, so it's a tricky decision.
