Can I Paint a Glass Sink to Look Like Copper?

Hey everyone! I'm in the middle of a DIY bathroom renovation in my basement and I'm trying to achieve a dark wood, dark green, and steampunk vibe. I've done a lot of work already, but I'm stuck on finding a copper-colored oval vessel sink. The cheapest I can find is $200, and I'm trying to keep costs low! So, I thought, why not paint a clear glass vessel sink to look copper instead? I know it might chip and flake, and I'm okay with that—it's not a museum after all! I've researched the steps, which include cleaning the surface, etching it with sandpaper, and using specialized glass paint in thin layers. Is this a silly idea, or could it actually work? I'd really appreciate any tips or tricks you might have!

Honestly, if you're against buying a new sink and are okay with some wear and tear, why not give it a go? It could turn out great, and even if it doesn’t, you've not lost anything!

I wouldn't etch the glass too much if you're aiming for that shiny copper look. Etching might mess with the finish, so I'd skip that step if possible. Just clean it really well and go for the paint!

You might want to consider painting just the underside of the sink. That way, if it chips, it won't be as visible since it won't be the side seen daily!
