Can I Plant Fall Bulbs After the First Frost?

I'm planning to order some triteleia corms from Brent and Becky's, but I noticed they'll ship around October 20. The first frost here in Ohio is usually around October 17, and the first freeze is right around October 20. Is this shipping date too late for planting, or can I still plant them after the first frost? I thought the idea was to get them in the ground in fall so they could establish roots, but I'm not sure if they just need to be in the ground to overwinter until spring.

You should be fine! As long as the ground isn’t frozen solid, which usually doesn’t happen until later in the season, you can plant them. The bulbs will be dormant when they arrive and will stay that way until it warms up in the spring. Remember, the first frost is just an average date, and it can take a while for the ground to actually freeze solid. Your bulbs will have a chance to root before spring without any issues.
