Can I Plant Shrubs Over a PVC Water Line?

I'm considering planting some Texas sage and hibiscus shrubs in my Phoenix yard, but there's a PVC water line buried about 8 inches deep directly where I want to plant. Since space is tight, moving the line would only shift it a few inches at best. Is it okay to plant the shrubs right over the line with a root barrier in place and deal with potential rerouting or repairs in the future?

Honestly, I wouldn't stress too much. Eight inches is pretty deep, and the root systems for those plants aren't that extensive. Just make sure to monitor them as they grow.

Using pots for the shrubs is a solid option. It keeps them above the line while letting you avoid any root issues.
