Can I Reapply Polymeric Sand on My Patio?

Asked By Pati0Master88 On

I built an 8x12 patio last fall, and while I'm proud of it, I rushed through the sand application. Now, I've noticed some of the joints have settled, and I'm wondering if it would be okay to apply polymeric sand over the whole patio again and wet it down. I suspect this might not be a great idea, but I thought I'd ask for advice. Thanks!

You can definitely add some more sand without any issues! Just make sure to compact it properly this time. Whether you used a tamper or just swept it, applying some new sand should work fine. Just wet it down after to activate the polymer.

I used a tamper with cardboard underneath, but I feel like I rushed it. Good to know I can use the leftover sand I have!

Honestly, as long as you're okay with the cost, adding a few bags shouldn’t hurt anything. If you've got extra, just throw it down and see how it looks!

Cost isn’t an issue since I have some left over, so I think I might just go for it.

I can't answer your question, but I'm also planning to build a patio about that size. Any tips on what tools I should rent or any advice you can share? Thanks!
