I'm considering taking down a wall in my basement, but I've noticed that it doesn't appear on the original blueprints. Is it safe to assume that this means the wall isn't load-bearing, or should I still be cautious? What steps should I take before proceeding with the removal?

It's a reasonable assumption that if a wall isn't shown in the blueprints, it may not be load-bearing, but that's not a guarantee. You definitely shouldn't just go ahead and remove it without getting a confirmation that it’s safe. Better safe than sorry!

Would we need to get a structural engineer to confirm one way or the other?
