Can I Replace My Bathroom Vanity Myself or Is $500 a Fair Price for a Plumber?

I've been planning to swap out the old vanity in our half-bath for a while now and I'm feeling pretty confident that I might be able to handle it myself. However, I'm concerned about dealing with the P-trap because it looks like it's glued in place at most points. I think I would need to cut it out and replace it with a new one. I'll also have to make some cuts in the new vanity to connect the pipes properly. A local plumber quoted me $500 for the job. If I decide this task is beyond my skills, does that price seem reasonable?

You can definitely tackle this yourself, but I think $500 is a solid price if you don't want the hassle. Plumbing can be unpredictable, and trusting a pro to handle it is often worth the money. I’d keep that in mind!

I completely get that! I tried changing my faucet once, and it turned into a huge ordeal with so many trips to Home Depot. Paying someone to get it right might just save you that headache.

Absolutely! If you’re not 100% sure, I'd suggest letting the plumber do it. Sometimes saving a few bucks isn’t worth the stress!

Yep, that’s about the going rate for a job like this! You could manage it on your own, but remember it might take you longer than expected if you’re new to this. $500 is reasonable if you think about the time and effort you'd spend figuring it all out.

Good point! First-time jobs have a lot of potential hiccups, and things could spiral out if you get stuck.

Go for it! Installing a new vanity isn’t rocket science. Worst case, you’ll have to call in a pro if it goes south, but you might learn a lot in the process. $500 seems more than fair if you have to go that route though!

Exactly! You have nothing to lose by trying. If you get really stuck, you can always call a plumber later.

Totally agree! Just make sure you have all your tools ready and watch a few videos first!
