Can I Replace Raspberries with Potatoes on My Allotment?

Hey everyone! I recently got a lovely allotment that's overflowing with raspberries. It's almost too much, so I'm considering digging up about half of the raspberry plants to make room for potatoes, broccoli, and garlic. I've heard I need to carefully remove the roots, but I'm wondering if there's anything specific I should do to the soil before planting the new veggies. I'm really new to all this and could use some guidance! Thanks a bunch!

You can enrich the soil with some compost or manure before you plant your new veggies. The raspberry roots are pretty shallow, so it shouldn’t be too hard to dig them out. Just keep an eye out for any little pieces of root that might pop up later and remove them as needed! Good luck!

Honestly, it might be a bit of a hassle to get all the roots out in one go. Just make sure to add a nice layer of organic matter to the soil before planting anything new. It’ll help a lot!
