I'm looking to tear down a wall made of drywall that separates two closets to create a larger space. I've measured the thickness and it seems about a quarter inch. I'm wondering if this wall could be load-bearing, either literally or metaphorically. Is it safe for me to attempt this myself with just a box cutter and a saw, or should I hire a professional? Am I making a huge mistake by considering this?

Generally, the drywall itself isn't load-bearing since it's just a thin barrier. However, there could be stuff behind it like electrical wiring or plumbing that could complicate things. It's hard to say for sure without a closer look, so just be careful!

What do you think could be behind it? I mean, is it common to find pipes or wires in such thin walls?
