I'm trying to create a DIY version of the Anthropologie Aster hydrangea lamp, which features a round base decorated with clay flowers. Since both my friend and I can't afford the actual lamp, I'm thinking about using a thrifted lamp with a round bottom and adding Sculpey clay flowers to it. My main concern is whether the clay could get too hot from the light bulb or the lamp base itself, potentially causing it to explode. This lamp will be in a child's room, so I want to ensure it's safe. Am I just being overly cautious, or is this something to worry about?

Honestly, light bulbs today don't get nearly as hot as they used to, so I wouldn't stress too much about that. However, if you're using an older lamp from a thrift store, just be cautious. You could let it run for a bit, check the base temperature afterward to see if it gets too warm. And remember, having a smoke alarm is always a smart safety measure!
Using an LED bulb is a great idea since they stay cooler than regular bulbs! Plus, you might want to think about using fake flowers instead of clay ones. That way, you wouldn't face any heat issues at all!

I get that, but I'm more worried about the clay itself exploding than starting a fire.
