I'm updating my kitchen and switching from a gas stove to a new Oven and Induction Cooktop. I've got a 40A 240V breaker already in use by the Oven and a 20A 120V line for the gas stove. The new Oven needs 20A at 240V, and the Induction Cooktop requires a whopping 40A at 240V. I'm aware that using both appliances at full power together will trip the breaker. Is my 40A breaker able to handle this setup, considering that I typically only use one appliance at a time? Before I call an electrician for a new line or possibly a subpanel, I want to understand if I can make this work safely.

It's a bit odd that your Induction Cooktop needs 40A—most of mine are around 15A at 120V. The model you mentioned sounds really high. Make sure to double-check the specifications!
