I'm wondering if anyone has successfully shortened a Dewalt string trimmer. My kids are eager to help out with yard work and can manage the weight of the battery-powered trimmer, but it's just too long for them to handle comfortably. Any advice?

You might be able to collapse it by adjusting the setup. Some people have made modifications with bike brakes and cables, but that could get complicated. I think a lot of trimmers have the motor in the business end, so as long as it's just wires in the handle, you could potentially shorten it after some disassembly. Just make sure not to cut any important wires!
Honestly, shortening that shaft might be tricky. It's designed as a shaft drive, and I doubt you'd be able to cut it and reattach without some serious issues. Maybe it's best to wait until they can handle the full size. Just feed them some more chicken to help them beef up!

That sounds like a lot of effort, though. Maybe looking for a shorter model or waiting a year is better than a DIY project.
