I have an electric dryer with a vertical vent hose, and I'm thinking about shortening it. I'm pretty sure this is the right move, especially because I don't need to pull the dryer out too often for access. Is cutting the hose the best way to go? By the way, I just realized I never installed a strain relief clamp that came with my power cable kit. Thanks for the heads up on that, Lowe's!

Yes, shortening the hose can definitely help. Just make sure it's not too short that you create issues with airflow. Also, try to keep it as straight as possible—every turn you have adds friction, which can increase the chance of lint build-up in those tight spots of the flex tube. If you're able to do it without too many twists, you're on the right track!
If you don't want to pull the dryer out completely, another option is to use an adjustable periscope vent. It can help you minimize the distance without making a cut. But if you're already snipping it, just make sure to keep it pretty straight for the best airflow.
