I've been noticing some rats in my garden over the past couple of months, and despite setting up some bait stations, we spotted one again yesterday. My husband is convinced that it won't be safe to grow vegetables this year. Is he right about that?

If you're worried about the rats, consider using traps instead of poison, especially since it can harm other wildlife when they eat poisoned rats. Start by placing traps without bait to get them used to it, then bait and set them a few days later. Peanut butter is a great lure! It sounds tough, but managing them this way can keep your garden safe.
It's totally safe to grow veggies in your garden! Just because there are rats around doesn't mean they're more dangerous than other animals. Many people grow food even with local wildlife nearby. Just remember to wash your veggies before eating them, just like you would do with any produce. I've had rats visit my garden too, but they're usually more interested in bird feeders than actual plants.
Honestly, there are rats everywhere, even farms! So your veggies won't be at risk. It's a good idea to find ways to manage the rat population if you're concerned, but don't let them scare you from gardening. Also, they often don't bother with veggies unless they’re super hungry.
