Can I Still Plant Tubers and Bare Roots This Season?

I recently scored a bunch of dahlia tubers and strawberry roots for free from a big box store's clearance section. I'm curious if these are still viable for planting now, considering the time of year and their current condition. What do you think?

I wouldn't worry too much just yet! If you're in a warm climate, these might still have a chance. Just keep in mind that fall isn't the best time for warm weather crops, especially with winter nearing in many areas. Make sure to check your zone first!

Definitely give it a try! Since they were free, it’s like a fun little experiment. Worst case, you just lose a bit of soil and water. Plus, if they don’t work out this year, you’ll gain some experience for next spring!

Exactly! I'm all for low-risk experiments in the garden.

Look at the condition of the tubers and roots. Many might have shriveled by now. If you’re in a warmer growing zone, planting them could be worth a shot. Good, plump tubers are what you want to see!

Right! It's all about signs of life in those tubers.
