Can I Transfer My Radish Seedlings to the Garden Now?

I started radish seedlings about a week ago, and they're growing quickly with roots sticking out of the bottom. Since I'm in Zone 6 near Philadelphia, is now a good time to move them into the garden beds? Or should I pot them in larger containers for a bit longer? This is my first year gardening, and I'm just trying to have some fun and see if anything grows!

Transplanting radishes can be tricky since they don't always do well when moved, but it’s definitely possible. They’re cold tolerant, so you can easily direct sow more seeds right now, especially since it’s a great time for that in the northeast. If you decide to move your seedlings, keep in mind that they might need a little time to recover, but should be ready to harvest in about 20-30 days depending on the type.

Thanks! I appreciate the advice. If they don’t take, I’ll just toss some seeds in. Hopefully, it goes well!

Exactly! If you lose some seedlings, it's no big deal. Radishes grow super fast, so you'll have another chance.

You can transplant them, but honestly, you might not need to since they’re quick growers. I usually start mine in February and plant them outside by mid-March. If you’re worried about frost, using row covers can protect them. They can survive light frosts too, down to about 21°F, so just keep an eye on the weather before making the move.
