I'm planning to install 1-1/4" travertine pavers, but I'm unsure about the base. Can I place them on paver base, or is a concrete slab with thin set adhesive necessary? Any insights on how to best set these up would be really helpful!

From my experience, if you want to avoid future issues, make sure you have a solid base. My pool builder set up a paver base, then sand, topped with travertine, plus concrete edges to keep everything in place. It's been solid for a year now!
Yeah, you can definitely use travertine pavers on paver sand! I’ve handled a couple of projects where clients had 1.25" travertine on their lanais, and they held up pretty well on that base.
Good to know! I might go this route instead.
I've got some experience with travertine outdoors. While I haven't specifically used pavers, I think laying them directly on paver base might risk cracking since that thickness feels a bit too thin for outdoor use. In my experience, I've worked with thicker materials like slate that hold up a lot better.
Thanks for the heads-up! It sounds like I should consider a stronger base.

Sounds like a solid approach! Keeping edges secure must help a lot.
