I've got a stack of 2x4x8 boards and I want to whip up some raised garden beds for my wife's garden. I'm curious if anyone has successfully used 2x4s for this purpose. Also, I'm wondering if I need to do anything special inside the beds to prevent soil from escaping through any tiny gaps between the boards. Any tips or experiences would be really helpful! Thanks!

Using 2x4s is definitely doable! Just keep in mind that if you're battling moles or gophers, it could be smart to put some hardware cloth under the bed for extra protection. It’ll save you some hassle down the line!
Absolutely! I faced the same concern and ended up using a sheet of black plastic tarp on the inside. It worked perfectly for me. If you can manage to get your boards really tight together, you might be able to skip the tarp altogether, though!
I actually went for 2x6 boards and saw no issues at all with soil retention. I used some 2x2 railings to secure the corners and lined the inside with cardboard. It breaks down over time but does a good job holding the soil in place. You might consider something similar!
I like it! Can’t wait to see how it works for you.

Good idea! Cardboard seems like a great eco-friendly option to try.
