Can I Use a Cabinet to Cover My Outside Electric Meter?

Asked By CraftyCat123 On

I'm considering installing a cabinet around my outdoor electric meter and fuse box, similar to how one might use a vanity to conceal plumbing in a bathroom. Is it permissible to do this with a ready-to-assemble shaker cabinet while still having easy access? Also, are there any building codes or safety regulations that require these utilities to remain exposed?

Unfortunately, you can't cover any of the electrical gear in that photo. It's essential for safety that these components remain accessible and visible. Check with your local codes too; usually, they have regulations about clearances around meters and fuses.

What about the pole coming out of the boxes? If I moved the watering controller below, would that still let me install a cabinet on the wall without covering the electrical boxes?
