Can I Use a Coping Saw Like a Scroll Saw?

Hey everyone! I'm brand new to woodworking and I'm trying to make a hairpin stick. I need to cut out some shapes that go right through the wood, but I don't have a scroll saw at the moment. Is it possible to use a coping saw instead? My plan is to drill a hole, feed the blade through, reattach it to the coping saw frame, and then cut from there. Is that a workable method?

Yep, that’s a legit way to use a coping saw or a fret saw. If you want some tips, check out Paul Sellers on YouTube; he's got great instructions on how to handle it properly.

Absolutely, you can use a coping saw just like that! Just take your time, and it should serve you well for what you're trying to do.

Fair warning, coping saws can be a pain to work with, and while they can get the job done, they might not be the most fun option. If you do decide to use one, remember to set it up to cut on the pull stroke for a smoother experience!
