Can I Use a Solar Panel with a Car Battery to Maintain My Motorcycles Over Winter?

I'm looking to keep two motorcycles charged while they're stored in a shed without power during the winter. My thought is to use a flooded car battery I already have. I'd connect a 12v solar panel to this battery and then use alligator clips with an SAE adapter to keep the motorcycle batteries topped off. Is this a good plan, or could I run into issues I'm not aware of?

Using a solar panel directly on the bike's battery is an option! Just hook your panel straight to the bike if you're okay with that setup. It works great for my boat with a 50w panel. But since you have two bikes, that might get a bit tricky. Just be sure to isolate each bike's battery properly to avoid any issues.

Would I need a charge controller if I connect the panel directly? Or can I just go from the panel to the SAE port?
