Can I Use a Sprayer for Kiltz and Behr Paint?

Hi everyone! I'm planning to paint my whole house, starting with Kiltz primer followed by Behr paint. I'm wondering if it's okay to use a sprayer for this job, and if so, which sprayer is recommended that won't break the bank since I don't have an air compressor. Also, I'll be prepping by scrubbing the walls, as they've been heavily smoked in. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated!

I'd suggest only using a sprayer if your house is empty of furniture. Otherwise, you'll face a ton of prep work. You could either rent or buy an airless sprayer for it.

It is empty; there are just a couple of floors to keep safe.

I've used my Graco Magnum X5 for spraying and it worked great for several rooms! You might want to check out their smaller model, the 'Project Painter Plus', which could be a cheaper option. Renting a sprayer can also be a smart choice. Remember, spraying is faster but requires more prep work than using brushes or rollers – you'll need to mask everything to avoid overspray, and trust me, you'll end up with paint on yourself too, especially when doing ceilings. I recommend a Tyvek suit and a respirator for safety. And if you're painting an entire house, consider getting your primer and paint in larger buckets; a gallon goes quickly when you're spraying.

Thanks! I'll check that out! The only thing I'm not painting is the living room floor, which has a terrible carpet, so I can skip taping that off.

Make sure to use oil-based Kiltz for better stain and odor coverage. The acrylic version might not hold up against strong smells. According to Kiltz's technical data, for airless spraying, you should have a fluid pressure between 1,800 - 3,000 psi and a tip size of .015" - .021".
