I'm looking to trim down some deck posts that were cut down to fit PVC covers by the previous owner. There are a few areas where the posts are exposed, and I want to cut them flush and parallel to the underside of my deck. I plan to use a piece of composite decking I have as a filler. I'm considering buying a Dewalt oscillating tool for this job. Will it be able to make a clean cut that's flush with the deck?

Yes, you can definitely use an oscillating tool for this! As long as you’re only cutting about 1 inch deep, it should work fine. Just keep in mind that the depth of the blade will be a limiting factor, but if there are no obstructions, you should get a decent cut underneath.
You might want to consider using a flush-cutting Japanese hand saw instead. It’s under $20 and will likely give you a cleaner cut. While the oscillating tool can do the job, those blades tend to wear out quickly. Both tools work, but the hand saw might offer better precision.
Great suggestion! I'll look into getting that Japanese saw.
Just a heads up, the depth of the cut can be a challenge with multi-tools. Some blades do allow for deeper cuts, so make sure to check that before you get started!

Thanks for the info! Depth is a good thing to consider.
