Can I Use an Undersized Charger for My 4S 304Ah LiFePO4 Battery Without Damage?

Hey everyone! I'm setting up a 4S LiFePO4 battery configuration for my van with EVE 304Ah cells (12.8V nominal, 14.4V full charge). I found the Nexpeak charger which is rated for a 12V range of 2-200Ah. Since my EVE cells fall outside this range, I'm a bit worried about potential damage. I've heard that using an undersized charger could lead to undercharging or stressing the batteries. Could this actually harm my cells, or would it just result in slow and incomplete charging? Are there any safety concerns with this? Also, could anyone suggest a charger that would suit my current setup and possibly an 8S (24V) system in the future? Thanks a lot!

I get where your concern is coming from, but those amp-hour ratings on chargers can be pretty misleading. They don’t actually specify how much power is going to charge your battery per se. It sounds like the Nexpeak is meant for batteries up to 200Ah, but realistically, you won't be getting the full 200A out of it. What really matters is the voltage from the charger. If it puts out enough voltage (around 14V), your battery will get charged no matter how many Ah it claims it's capable of handling. Just be aware that charging 304Ah cells with a smaller charger could mean it’ll take longer to fully charge them, but you shouldn’t damage them as long as the voltage is correct. Just check the charger's specs to ensure it’s suitable!”},{
