Hey everyone! I'm a new plant parent with a few houseplants: a snake plant, a pothos (I think it's a pothos from Home Depot), a calathea, and a monstera. I visited a local plant store to get soil for my pothos, which has been in the same Home Depot soil for over 2 years. They recommended cactus soil, orchid bark, and perlite. However, I've read that cactus soil is mainly for cacti and may not be ideal for houseplants. I'm wondering if it's okay to use cactus soil for my plants or if I should look for a different type of soil altogether. Any advice would be appreciated!

Totally fine to use cactus soil! It's interesting because a lot of store-bought cactus soils aren't perfect for cactus either; they can lack enough gritty material for effective drainage. However, they usually contain perlite, which is beneficial for many houseplants too! Just keep an eye on how your plants respond.
I personally use a cactus and succulent mix for all my houseplants, sometimes adding extra bark to enhance drainage. It really helps keep the soil from staying too wet, which is key for healthy plants!
Cactus soil is actually a great choice for houseplants too! It tends to be airier and drains faster than regular potting soil, which many plants appreciate, especially if you want to avoid overwatering. So don't hesitate to use it!

Thanks for clarifying! I appreciate the info!
