I just had a thought about using black Corex floor protection sheets to create a rhubarb forcer. It seems like a good temporary solution since I don't have the budget or space for a fancy terracotta one. I know it's already the end of March, but I have a late variety that's starting to push my current bucket off the ground. Has anyone tried this before?

Corex isn't a typical membrane; it's more of a thin, twin-wall plastic like what's used in conservatory roofs. I was thinking of rolling it into a tube and placing a bucket on top as a lid. Seems like it could work!
Using any kind of membrane could actually cause your rhubarb to grow wonky since it might not allow the plant to push through properly. I'd recommend building a tent-like structure so the rhubarb can grow without restriction.
