Hey everyone! I've recently been inspired by all the aquarium posts around here and decided to set up my own fish tank. I'm curious if I can use the water from my fish tank to water my houseplants. Do you guys just use it as-is, or do you add any regular fertilizer to it? How are your plants doing with this method? Is there anything specific I should keep in mind? For context, I have a 10-gallon tank with live aquatic plants, and I just put in some pothos cuttings. I'm planning to adopt a betta fish soon, and right now, the tank is cycling with added bacteria.

Using fish tank water for your plants can be beneficial, but it's worth noting the actual benefits can vary depending on your tank's setup. If you have a heavily planted tank, you might find the water isn't rich enough in nutrients for your plants, since they consume a lot of what’s there. However, if your tank is lightly planted, the water change can be richer in nitrates and phosphates, which is great for plants. Just make sure to keep an eye on it!

Got it! I figured there are some nutrients in fish water, but I guess I need regular fertilizer too. At least I won't have to let tap water sit for ages, which is a plus!
