Can I Use Flex Seal for a Leaky Heating Oil Tank?

Hey everyone! I'm in a bit of a jam here. I think I've got a tiny leak under my heating oil tank in the basement, but I can't swing the $10,000 for a new one right now. I'm wondering if something like Flex Seal would work as a temporary fix. Are there any other temporary solutions that might help? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I wouldn't recommend using Flex Seal for this kind of issue. It's not designed to seal petroleum products, and it might just dissolve. Instead, consider looking into some magnetic patches specifically made for oil tanks. It's a safer option. Honestly, replacing the tank is the best solution because a leaking oil tank near heat sources is a serious fire hazard.

A larger epoxy patch could work better here. Just make sure you clean the surface really well first. Where exactly is the leak? Is it from the tank itself or from a fitting or seam?

You might want to check out RectorSeal 68442 Magic Patch. Just make sure you clean the area thoroughly with a good degreaser before you apply it. Follow the instructions carefully for the best results.

Have you ever tried JB Weld's Tank Weld? It's super strong stuff; you can literally stick your car to the wall with it! Just follow the directions after cleaning the area well. It might be worth a shot!

I can vouch for this! Used it once and it worked like a charm.
