I'm trying to brighten up a really dark corner in my dining room that has no windows. I recently placed an artificial ficus on a shelf there, and with a floor lamp nearby, it surprisingly lit up the space nicely. Now, I'm thinking about adding some live houseplants, but I'm not sure if they'll thrive in such low light conditions. I know peace lilies can survive there, but I'd like to try a ficus or a dracaena fragrans as well. Has anyone had success using grow lights in similar situations? What are your recommendations?

Absolutely, with a good grow light, you can keep a plant alive and even have it thrive in that dark corner! The brighter the light and the closer it is, the better. If you're avoiding a grow light, snake plants or ZZ plants are reliable choices. Just curious, are you open to hanging lights, or do you prefer to keep it on a floor or table lamp?
Plants definitely need light, especially in dark spaces. No plant will really thrive long-term without some help from grow lights, but some are more tolerant than others. Ficus trees in particular need a good amount of light, so I'd be cautious there. You can use special bulbs for lighting them up or simply swap them out when they start to fade. Consider low-light options like snake plants or ZZ plants if you're looking for something that will last a bit longer without a ton of light.
