I want to try making my own succulent soil mix without buying pre-made soil. Is it feasible to use just river sand, coarse rocks, garden soil, and compost for my succulents?

It might be helpful if you share a photo of your materials! One thing to watch out for is the size of the rocks; if they’re too big, it could lead to drainage issues and create a perched water table inside the pot.
It really depends on the type of succulents you have. Some varieties aren't very picky, so your mix might work just fine! For example, Aloe and Snake plants generally adapt well to various soil types.
