I'm tiling my basement shower and need to mix thin set mortar, but I'm not a professional and don't have plans for big projects in the future. I'll be mixing small batches over several weekends, a few rows at a time. I know a heavy duty half-inch drill is ideal, but I'm hesitant to spend $200 on one or rent it multiple times. I have a rigid variable speed corded drill (about 8 amps), but it lacks a low speed/high torque setting. It does offer variable speeds if I only pull the trigger halfway. Can I use this drill safely with a small mixing paddle for my mortar?

I used a similar corded drill and found that using a QEP mixer attachment helped a lot by putting less strain on the drill, although it mixes a bit slower. Here's the link to it: [QEP Mixer Paddle](https://www.homedepot.ca/product/qep-16-in-steel-universal-thinset-and-grout-mixing-paddle-for-cordless-and-corded-drills/1000143631). Give it a try!
You're good to go! No worries about using that drill for small batches. I’ve mixed small amounts with a cordless drill without any issues. Just remember to add water before the powder, and you should be set. Stick to half a bag at most, and you'll be fine!
Yes, it should totally work! Rigid has a solid warranty, so if it does break, you might upgrade to something better anyway. Just take it easy, and you’ll be mixing like a pro!
