Can I Use My DCD999 Hammer Drill for Drilling a Hole in Marble?

Hey everyone! I'm tackling a project where I need to drill a 1-inch hole in my marble kitchen countertop for a water purifier faucet. I have a DCD999 hammer drill and a DCF850 impact driver, but I don't own a regular drill. The instructions for the water purifier specifically say not to use hammer drills, as they might damage the marble. Since the DCD999 isn't an SDS hammer drill, do you think I can still use it, or should I bite the bullet and buy a standard drill? I'd love any tips or advice you can offer. Thanks a ton!

Another tip is to get a cheap auto-cleaning sponge, soak it, and insert it into the hole saw before drilling. This will keep the drill bit wet and prevent overheating. Super effective!

You can definitely use your DCD999, just make sure it’s set to regular mode, not hammer mode! For working with marble, it's wise to use a diamond core drill, and keep it wet while drilling. This will help prevent damage. If you're concerned, you might want to practice on some scrap material first.

Thanks for the reassurance! Glad to know I can use the drill I already have.

This! I also suggest using a 1-inch regular hole saw and drilling through some scrap wood as a guide for your diamond bit. It'll help keep everything aligned.

Just remember, don't put the DCD999 in hammer mode and you're good to go! It's not a dedicated hammer drill anyway.
