I just got a DeWalt shop vac (model DXV09P-QTA) and I'm thinking of buying a DeWalt power sander. Can I use this vacuum as a dust extractor for it? What do I need to make the connection work?

Yes, you can definitely use your DeWalt shop vac as a dust extractor, but there are a couple of things you'll need to sort out first. DeWalt tools have a specific AirLock connector, so you’ll require a hose adapter to connect the vacuum to your sander. A great option is the DWV9000 Universal Connector, which fits on the vacuum hose. Additionally, you might want to consider adding a dust cyclone separator for better dust management between the vac and your tools. This will help keep the fine dust from cluttering your workspace!
Thanks for the tip! That’s exactly what I needed. I'll look into getting that connector.
Just a heads up, while the DWV9000 is branded as ‘universal’, it may not fit all hoses perfectly. Specifically, the DXV09 model uses a 1-7/8” hose while the DWV9000 is designed for a 1-1/4” hose. I actually 3D print and sell adapters that allow you to use the 1-1/4” hoses from DeWalt’s dust extractors with the DXV vacuums. They do sell a kit (DWV9315) that includes the 15’ hose and the DWV9000 if you're interested in that route.
That’s good to know! I had trouble with the fit too, so your adapter sounds like a clever solution.
Exactly! A dust cyclone is a smart investment since many shop vacs with coarse filters can just blow fine dust back into the air.
