Can I Use Old Coco Coir for Starting My Indoor Plants?

Hey everyone! I found some hydrated coco coir that's been stored in a sealed Home Depot bucket in my garage for the last two years. When I opened it, it looked like good soil and didn't have any weird smells. I'm wondering if it's still usable for starting my indoor plants or if I should just buy a new brick to rehydrate? I'm new to gardening, so I'm hoping for any advice you can offer!

Not a dumb question at all! If it looks fine and doesn't have any foul odors or mold, it should be good to go. Just make sure it’s not overly dry, and you should be okay to use it for your plants!

I say give it a shot! Just try it out with a plant you’re not too attached to first, and see how it performs. If it works, great! If not, you can always grab a new brick later.

If the coco coir is still hydrated and doesn't smell off, it should be alright. Just keep an eye on it, as old coir can sometimes harbor invisible issues. Check for any questionable textures or hidden pests before using.
