Can I Use XL Pocket Screws in Stripped Holes?

I'm new to using pocket holes for my projects and I accidentally set the clutch on my drill too high, resulting in a few stripped pocket holes in some 2x4s. I managed to pull the screws out, but now the holes are unusable. Would it be possible to use the thicker Kreg XL screws in the same holes? I understand there's a different jig and size drill bit for the XL screws, but do both jigs and bits create holes at the same angle?

You can definitely try using a size wider screw! Just be sure to test in some scrap wood first to see how it fits. That way, you'll avoid any surprises in your actual project.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking too! Just to clarify, the XL screws and regular screws are meant for different jigs, but if you got the XL jig, you should be covered for future projects. It’ll help you get the angles right. Definitely a solid choice to order the XL jig!
