Can I vent my range hood to the condo’s ventilation system?

Hey everyone! I'm considering installing a range hood under my kitchen cabinet, and I've noticed there's a hollow section next to it that connects to my condo's ventilation system. My idea is to vent the exhaust from the range hood into that ventilation intake. Do you think this is a smart move? I mean, since the cooking vapors are already going into the vent, it seems reasonable, right? Also, are there any range hoods that can vent to the side? If this isn't a good idea, what alternatives do I have?

I wouldn't recommend venting your range hood into the condo's ventilation system. Typically, it’s not a good practice because you might end up circulating cooking odors and grease throughout the building instead of venting them outside. It's best to have a dedicated vent opening to the outside if possible. If not, you might want to consider a recirculating range hood that filters the air instead of venting it out.

Definitely not a good idea! Even if the cooking vapors are already traveling that way, it can create issues with airflow and potentially cause more grease buildup in the system. You could look into downdraft hoods that vent sideways or even updrafts designed for installation without exterior venting. That way, you can still have a range hood that works effectively without compromising your building's ventilation.
