Hey everyone! Last summer, a friend of mine who works as a general contractor had some extra composite siding that he offered me for free. I was planning to use it to reside a couple of sides of my house this fall, but things got busy with a premature baby, and the siding ended up sitting outside on the ground, uncovered, and now it's buried under snow since February. I'm concerned it might be ruined. Do you think the whole pile is trash now, or is it just the few boards touching the ground that are affected? It would really stink to lose it, but since it was free, I'm trying to understand the extent of the potential damage.

You might see some surface mold, but given it's been only six months, it shouldn’t penetrate too deep into the siding. The bottom boards might take a hit, but if the pile wasn’t stored too unevenly, you could avoid warping. If you're laying it directly onto sheeting, the warping won’t be terrible, but it could be noticeable if you have a rain screen setup. Inspect them in the spring and just be cautious of those bottom layers!
I left some Trex deck boards under my house for over 15 years in a damp spot, and they grew some mold roots. I pressure washed them and used them without any major issues, just some discoloration. If you can let some air circulate around the siding, I think you might be okay after a good cleaning!
