I'm considering adding insulation to my condo ceiling because my upstairs neighbor often moves furniture and stomps around. I've heard mixed things about whether insulation actually helps with impact noise. Would it be worth it, or is there another solution?

From what I've gathered, standard insulation alone might not do much for those heavy footsteps and furniture sounds unless there's some kind of air gap between your ceiling and their floor. You might notice some improvement if you're using drop ceilings with batts of insulation, but it might require more work than just adding insulation.

Interesting. So does that mean I would need to tear down the whole ceiling to do this properly?
