Can My Front Door Glass Pane Be Replaced or Do I Need a New Door?

I recently had a glass pane in my front door break, and I've gotten a couple of opinions from glass repair companies. One said they could fix it, while another claimed the molding around the glass can't be removed and that I'd need a whole new door. This second company wasn't trying to sell me a new door; they just said they couldn't repair the glass. A while back, a window salesman even commented that my door is quite nice and probably worth around $10k.

Is it really possible that the manufacturer designed this door in a way that makes glass replacement impossible? Has anyone else dealt with a similar situation? I'm worried my landscaping company won't replace it with a door of the same quality, so I'm trying to figure out who to trust regarding the repair options. Also, I can't see any nails or anything that would suggest the trim can be removed. You can see what I'm talking about here: [imgur link](https://imgur.com/a/64zlrZr)

Those molding stops should be removable. Just be careful when you pry them off. Once that's done, the glass can be replaced. You might need to get some new stops after all is said and done, but it definitely seems doable! I’d recommend having a local glass company tackle this for you, they usually know what they’re doing.

That sounds promising! Hopefully, removing the stops won't damage anything too much. I'll look for local glass companies and see if they can help.

I had a similar issue with my door too. I ended up reaching out to a custom millwork shop. They could help with the trim if it needed replacing. Make sure you get someone who can match the wood properly! Breaking it down, you’ll have to remove the trim around the broken glass and then get it replaced, which shouldn’t be too complicated if done right.

I'd actually be surprised if you really need a new door. The glass should be the easy part, but as you mentioned, if your current door is super high-end, it might be tricky to find an exact match if you have to switch it out. Just explore the repair route first before giving up on that door!
