Can old chili seeds still grow?

I found some chili seeds in a matchbook from Wahaca tucked away in my bag. It's been a while since I visited—May 2022 to be exact—and it looks like they don't offer those seeds anymore. The seeds have been sitting in there for almost three years. I've planted them in a pot indoors, but what are the chances they will actually germinate?

You've got a decent shot! Chili seeds can last up to five years if kept in the right conditions. So, don’t lose hope yet!

True, but the bottom of my rucksack isn't exactly ideal storage. It's dark and cool though!
