Can Peed-Down Plants Thrive? Tips on Using Urine as Fertilizer

Hey everyone! I recently heard that urine could be a natural fertilizer rich in nitrogen, and I'm curious if anyone here is actually using it in their gardens. I sometimes pee in my compost bin because I was told it speeds up the process. However, I'm worried that using it directly on my veggies might harm them. What do you all think about using diluted urine in the soil? What's a good water-to-pee ratio, and are there any pros or cons I should know about?

You can definitely use diluted urine - I’ve done it and my tomatoes thrived on it! But be cautious if you’re on medications; check how they could affect your plants and health. There are online resources to look up drug safety, just don't expect them to have gardening-specific info.

Good point! It’s tough to find reliable info about that, but better safe than sorry.

From what I've read, a good dilution is 1 part urine to 10 parts water. It's usually safe for plants that won't be eaten raw, like tomatoes and corn. But honestly, if you're already composting, just adding it to your compost might be the easiest and safest route!

That makes sense! Composting would probably balance out the nutrients better.

Honestly, peeing directly on crops kind of grosses me out. There are plenty of safer and less smelly alternatives. Plus, compost tea is a great option for boosting soil health without the risk of odor issues.

Totally agree! I’d rather keep my garden fresh-smelling. Plus, compost is such a great nutrient source!
