Can Soundproofing Really Reduce Noise in My Thin-Walled Room?

Asked By QuirkyPineapple92 On

I live in a place with thin walls, and every time I talk on the phone or play games, my family complains about the noise. I'm wondering if soundproofing would actually help keep sound inside my room and not disturb them. If it does work, could anyone recommend some effective soundproofing options that are easy to install and available in the UK?

Most soundproofing solutions you find online mainly reduce reverberation rather than block noise completely. While they might help a little, you'll need a significant amount of material for a notable effect. A key aspect of stopping noise from traveling through walls is the wall's mass itself. For serious setups, like recording studios, multiple layers of thick drywall work best, though that's a hefty project for a bedroom.

That's really true! You can throw up some acoustic foam or hang heavy tapestries, but don't expect a miracle with just that.

If you're looking for something more robust, effective soundproofing will typically not be budget-friendly or simple to install. Just a heads up!
