I'm curious if the Milwaukee 7 1/4" Miter saw can handle baseboards that are 3 to 5 inches tall when they're standing vertically against the fence. Has anyone tried this out?

I remember having trouble cutting baseboards on one side. The saw would not completely cut through a 3 1/2 inch board on the right side because part of the saw blocked it. I had to flip the board to finish the last bit, which was really annoying since they advertise it can cut 3 1/2" baseboards. I wonder if they only tested it from one side!
You should definitely check their product page for the specs. It details the maximum cutting capacity quite clearly. For baseboards, it seems the saw is limited to about 3.5 inches according to the Home Depot site. I found a YouTube video that mentioned it can only cut baseboards less than 3 1/4 inches. Super frustrating if you wanted to use it for trim work! Check it out here: https://youtu.be/aiPOWCIEh6Y?si=uAGH0nn99BGvBjl7 (around 8:40 if that helps!).
I have this saw, and I've been using it for trim work without issues. It can handle up to 2x6 at a 45-degree cut, and 2x8 at 90 degrees, so you might be fine with your baseboards depending on how you set it. It's performed well for me so far!
