Can Watering Orbs Really Start Fires?

Hey everyone! I've been using those plastic water orbs in my indoor planters for a while now, and I've come across some chatter about them potentially causing fires. I usually keep them in sunny spots, but I've never had any issues. Should I be worried about starting a fire with these, or is it just a glass thing? I'm feeling a bit anxious about it!

I totally get the worry! My son has experimented with melting glass to create fire starters. He found that you really need the sun at a specific angle and intensity to start a fire. So unless you're intentionally trying to start one, I wouldn't stress about those water orbs causing problems.

That’s a relief! I love my orbs and wouldn’t want to give them up.

What you're probably hearing about is the sun's rays being concentrated through curved glass, which can kindle a fire if the conditions are just right. While it's possible, it's pretty unlikely to happen with plastic orbs. You should be good to go!

Thanks for clarifying! I've seen some scary posts too, but this makes me feel a lot better.
