My husband thinks we can just paint over the existing paint in our bathroom, but some areas are lifting and peeling due to humidity from the shower. I believe we should strip the old paint, but after doing so, we discovered the paint is on just the drywall. It's turning into a much bigger project than we expected! What's the best approach for fixing this?

You should definitely scrape off any loose paint and then mud and sand the damaged spots to make everything smooth. Don't forget to clean the walls thoroughly and use a good primer before repainting! For the paint, a semi-gloss is great for ceilings, while semi-gloss or eggshell works well for walls. This should help you achieve a nice finish!
Painting over peeling paint is a bad idea because it won’t stick properly to the lifted areas and will just peel again. First, tackle the humidity issue – that’s crucial! Once that’s sorted, then you can deal with the paint. Consider using a high-adhesion primer for the best results afterward.

Good point! The bathroom definitely has humidity issues. I’ll make sure to fix that first before tackling the paint.
