Can you actually make a varnish by mixing Styrofoam and acetone?

So my girlfriend told me that mixing Styrofoam with acetone creates a homemade varnish for wood. I'm skeptical about this—does anyone know if she's onto something or just pulling my leg?

Yeah, I'm with you on questioning this. It feels like one of those ideas that sounds cool but could end up being a mess. A homebrew varnish made like that could be more harmful than helpful. Better to stick with something specifically made for wood!

Honestly, the whole idea sounds a bit sketchy. Mixing Styrofoam and acetone can create a gooey substance that's more like glue than varnish. It might protect the wood, but it probably won’t look great. I’d be cautious about trying it on anything you really care about.

I’ve heard similar things before, but just be aware that it can produce something that’s not very safe. Think about it like napalm if you get it wrong! Just because something is homemade doesn’t mean it’s a good idea, especially with all the fumes involved.
