Can You Replace Your Lawn with a Garden in Suburbs?

I'm curious about the zoning regulations in different suburbs or towns. Are there places where homeowners are allowed to completely tear up their lawns and turn them into productive gardens? I'm looking for areas without restrictions, especially those that don't have homeowner associations (HOAs) that might limit such changes.

You'll find plenty of places without HOAs that let you do whatever you want with your yard. I live near Boston, and I can plant whatever I like! It really depends on where you are, though. Some areas are super chill about this.

Absolutely! Places without HOAs are definitely the way to go.

For the most accurate info, check your local city's website and reach out to the zoning officer. They'll know your area's regulations. Just keep in mind, if you're in a neighborhood with an HOA, they might have their own rules that could complicate things. In that case, you might have to get creative with your front yard!
