I planted some carrot seeds in my raised bed back in March, but sadly, they didn't sprout. I suspect that squirrels might have dug them up right after I planted them because they tend to be little troublemakers. Now, I've got more carrot seeds and I'm wondering if I'm too late to try again here in Western Oregon. Also, I came across the idea of covering the seeds with a board while they germinate. Is that a real method, or did I just dream it? Has anyone tried doing that?

Absolutely, you can try again! I actually use plastic trays weighted down with rocks instead of a board. The key here is keeping the seeds consistently moist, and that’s what the cover helps with. Also, I’m in Zone 7 in New York, and I find that the board method works well under similar conditions.

You're not too late! I usually sow my seeds when my garlic comes up, which is around the first week of July. I harvest my carrots well into the fall. Just make sure to keep the soil moist after you sow them!
