Hey everyone! I recently bought a house built in 2005, and everything seemed great at my initial inspection in 2020, including a pretty thorough check of the roof truss system. However, I recently noticed that the ceiling in one of the bedrooms is bowing, and it's got me really anxious. I've checked the foundation and the garage below, and they look solid, with no unusual cracks or signs of damage. The house is 2200 square feet, two stories, and this issue seems to be isolated to this specific bedroom. I also can't get into the crawl space due to muscular dystrophy, so I'm feeling pretty stuck. If anyone has any advice or has seen something similar, please let me know! I could really use some reassurance.

It's understandable to feel concerned, but I recommend staying calm and hiring a structural engineer to take a look. They can assess the situation more thoroughly and give you some peace of mind about what’s going on with your ceiling.
Looking at those later pictures, it does have a bit of a water damage vibe to me. Are you completely sure there hasn’t been any water damage?
I did check for stains and the paint looks fine, but maybe it was just a tiny leak that didn't show through? I'm not really sure.
It sounds like a common issue where the drywall might just be lacking screws to hold it in place. If you're up for it, you could try jacking the drywall back up and securing it with screws spaced about 12 inches apart. Renting a drywall hoist or using a car jack with a piece of wood might help you with the lift!
Yeah, it could be old water damage. Sometimes everything dries out, but the drywall stays compromised. Might want to keep that in mind!
