I'm facing a dilemma about whether to buy a 10" or a 12" sliding miter saw for some upcoming projects, including door jamb repairs and building a wall around my air-handler in the garage. I've spent hours researching and found mixed opinions. Some claim the 10" produces more accurate cuts with less wobble, which is important to me. However, others suggest that the 12" is more versatile and capable of larger cuts. There's a used 10" Ryobi available for $140 nearby, but I'm not sure if I should go for it or just buy new. Any advice on which size would be better for cutting 1x2's, 2x4's, and 4x4's, especially during hurricane season here in Florida?

I recommend the 10" sliding miter saw. I own both 10" and 12" models, and honestly, the 12" is often too heavy and cumbersome to move around. The 10" handles everything I've needed to cut, and for plywood, I just switch to my table saw. Plus, it's way easier to handle!
I got a 12" double bevel for my deck rebuild and it worked like a charm. It can handle all the cuts you’ll need to make. Just be sure to stick with well-reviewed brands regardless of the size you choose!
Check out some reviews before buying since I've heard Ryobi isn't the best for consistent cuts. My 10" worked great for smaller jobs, like cutting tall baseboards. Also, consider getting a wheeled stand—it'll make moving the saw much easier, and Home Depot often has good deals on bundles.
If budget isn't a concern, you might want to consider a 12" double bevel sliding saw. It's the most versatile option out there. Brands like Bosch or Dewalt are my favorites—they last and perform well!
If you're planning to cut angle cuts on 4x4s, go for the 12". I have the Hercules 12" model with a shadow guide and it’s been amazing for precision and value!

Totally agree! The 10" has been perfect for all my projects.
